In a bizarre partnership that breaks traditional expectations, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing complimentary bonus story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Disclosed

According to the formal release, "A strange meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where hints of prohibited practices and terrifying transformations echo through the obscurity." The storyline presents a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who charges the characters with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a secret group.

The adventure centers on "peculiar tests and a fearsome enemy" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Metamorphoses

The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser finishes with a powerful sequence showing a character, likely the prisoner, changing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Additional Features

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an exclusive katana alongside multiple artifacts hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive arms
• Survey Corps steed

Latest Free Story Update

This release also brings the game's newest complimentary story addition, titled "The Enigma." This humorous adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive abilities: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

This marks scarcely the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series earlier included a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially contained a quest that obviously echoed the well-known series One-Punch Man.
